2017 DFMA Forum - Designing Difference - Features Panel on “The Bold Look of DFMA at Kohler”

Boothroyd Dewhurst to Host 2017 International Forum on Design for Manufacture and Assembly
June 6-7 in Providence, RI, USA

WAKEFIELD, R.I., USA, April 27, 2017—Boothroyd Dewhurst, Inc. will host the thirty-second annual International Forum on Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA®) on June 6-7, 2017, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Providence-Warwick, RI, USA. “Designing Difference” is the theme of this year’s foremost world-wide conference on product simplification and early cost estimating. It is organized for product developers and managers in all electro-mechanical industries.

“The Bold Look of DFMA at Kohler” is a featured panel discussion that highlights the return of last year’s “Distinguished DFMA Supporter of the Year” award winner, Bill Devenish, Principle Engineer-Global DFx—along with his colleagues from Kohler: Ben Marotz, Stephanie Freier, Matthieu Da Rocha, and Adam Guenther. Kohler is a global leader in the manufacture of kitchen and bath products, engines and power systems, and cabinetry and tile, among other ventures.

The Kohler panel of experts will discuss the progression the company made in recognizing the need to adopt DFMA, the steps taken during the implementation phase, and how normal barriers to change were overcome. Some of the critical success factors, including management support and development of internal DFMA expertise, will be reviewed. The panel will also look at how their early initiatives resulted in the expanded use of DFMA, which now reaches into other functions and organizations within Kohler.

“The Kohler experience offers insights not only for our DFMA community but for companies who are deploying other advanced methods or technologies to improve their costs and competitiveness,” said John Gilligan, president of Boothroyd Dewhurst, Inc. “Kohler has a lot to share about successfully introducing new ideas.”

Other presenters at the Forum will discuss how the theme of Designing Difference drives product benchmarking (Dell), Lean manufacturing and design (Hypertherm), internal collaboration (Raytheon), innovation in silicon materials for multi-component molding (Dymotek), DFM for additive manufacturing (Univ. of Dayton), and designing for the industrial internet, IoT (Goldense Group).
